Abstract

This study aims to explore the effectiveness of using visual media to enhance the ability to read Jawi (Arab-Malay script) among elementary school students. The main issue addressed is the low reading proficiency of Jawi due to the limited availability of instructional media suited to students' characteristics and needs. This research employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive method, gathering data through observation, interviews, and documentation. The research subjects included teachers and students from an elementary school that had implemented interactive visual cards in the learning process. The results reveal that visual media significantly increased students’ learning interest, clarified the shapes of Jawi characters, and facilitated accurate recognition and pronunciation of the letters. Findings also indicate that engaging and contextual media can foster an active and enjoyable learning environment. Therefore, it can be concluded that visual media plays a crucial role in supporting the effectiveness of Jawi reading instruction at the elementary level.
