Abstract

Religious culture within the school environment plays a crucial role in shaping students’ character. One of the key factors contributing to the development of this culture is the exemplary role of teachers. This study aims to describe and analyze the role of teacher exemplarity in fostering religious culture at SMP IT Al Izhar Pekanbaru. Employing a qualitative phenomenological approach, data were collected through observations, in-depth interviews, and documentation involving teachers, the principal, and students. The data analysis followed a series of stages including data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that teacher exemplarity significantly contributes to building students’ religious culture through consistent religious practices, polite communication, and daily behaviors reflecting Islamic values. Furthermore, the consistency of teachers’ attitudes and behaviors in various interactions plays a dominant role in influencing students’ habitual religiosity at school. The religious culture at SMP IT Al Izhar is developed through habituation, a supportive environment, and integrated exemplary conduct demonstrated by the entire school community.
