Babilangan as an Batin Assessment of the Profile of Prospective Married Couples in South Kalimantan

Babilangan is an effort by the people of South Kalimantan to find out the compatibility of a person with their prospective partner. However, in Hulu Sungai Utara Regency, babilangan was met with prolonged pros and cons. The formulation of this research problem is how the solution in dealing with these pros and cons and how to function babilangan in today's life. This type of research is empirical legal research with the type of legal sociology and socio-legal approach. Data collected through several techniques are analysed using social theory, ushul fiqh and legal plurality. The solution to facing the chaos of the pros and cons of babilangan is through the al-jam’u wa at-taufi>q technique which results in letting babilangan remain in the frame of pros and cons. Both walk on the same path without disturbing each other, let alone knocking each other down. Similar solutions through the technique of realising a pluralistic society that humans must be different. Legal pluralism recognises these differences, including babilangan. Those who are pro are allowed to carry out this practice until whenever and those who are against have the right to refuse without having to declare the pro community as wrong. The two attitudes go hand in hand without disturbing each other. The function of babilangan in the present day is that it is actually a scientific science. Although categorised as part of numerology, numerology has now penetrated information technology, which should also be the case for babilangan. Moreover, babilangan’s early reading of the prospective partner’s profile is in line with fuzzy time series theory and even scenario planning theory to read the possibilities that occur in the future, meaning that this is a benefit even mas}lah}ah al-mu’tabarah. Based on the above study, babilangan is relevant to be referred to as a mental examination of the prospective spouse’s profile.References
