Integration of Thematic Tafsir of QS. Al-‘Alaq into Local Wisdom-Based Islamic Learning Media for Generation Z in West Sumatera

Abstract

Innovation in Islamic learning media that integrates Qur’anic values and local wisdom remains rarely applied, even though Generation Z, as the primary users of the digital era, requires approaches that are relevant to both cultural and religious contexts. This study focuses on the philosophy of Adat Basandi Syarak, Syarak Basandi Kitabullah (ABS-SBK) as a representation of local wisdom aligned with Qur’anic values, particularly through the utilization of Qur’anic verses in character building. The research aims to analyze the effectiveness of implementing digital learning media, identify challenges and obstacles, formulate a model for integrating the tafsir of QS. Al-‘Alaq with ABS-SBK, and examine its implications for Islamic learning among Generation Z. A qualitative research method was employed using a case study approach through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation. The findings reveal that integrating the tafsir of QS. Al-‘Alaq with the ABS-SBK philosophy enhances student engagement, fosters contextual learning, and strengthens the Minangkabau Islamic cultural identity. The main challenges include limited infrastructure, educators’ technological competence, and content validation. The proposed integration model combines thematic tafsir with ABS-SBK-based multimedia content, complemented by gamification and digital storytelling. The implications of this study highlight the importance of collaboration among scholars, academics, and technology developers in realizing Islamic learning that is innovative, contextual, and firmly rooted in divine values.
