Qur’anic Resilience and Self-Esteem of Bullying Victims at SMPN 23 Tangerang

This study examines efforts to strengthen the self-esteem of students who experience bullying at SMPN 23 Tangerang through the development of Qur’anic-based resilience. The research aims to protect students from the psychological consequences of bullying and to support their recovery from cognitive, emotional, and mental distress. Employing a qualitative case study design, the study involved two guidance and counseling teachers, the PIK-R student organization, and four students who had experienced bullying. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, and were analyzed using data reduction, data display, verification, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that bullying at SMPN 23 Tangerang generates significant cognitive, emotional, and mental pressures, with victims exhibiting low to moderate levels of self-esteem—manifested in feelings of hurt, fear, trauma, school avoidance, shame, and even self-harm ideation. These negative effects were mitigated by guidance and counseling teachers through the cultivation of Qur’anic resilience, encompassing patience, positive thinking, reliance on Allah, optimism, and empathy. The study concludes that Qur’anic resilience equips bullied students with the capacity to endure and recover from adverse experiences, ultimately enhancing their confidence, sense of self-worth, and self-acceptance in social interactions and daily life challenges.
