Abstract

Abstract: Art therapy is a form of experiential treatment that involves the use of art materials, the therapeutic process includes the guidance of an art therapist, and the resulting artwork is assumed to contribute to the reduction of psychosocial problems. A systematic literature review was conducted to provide an overview of art therapy interventions for children and adolescents with psychosocial issues. Three forms of therapist behavior were demonstrated non-directive, directive, and eclectic. The three forms of therapeutic behavior combined with different means and forms of expression showed a significant impact on psychosocial problems. The results showed that the use of means and forms of expression and therapist behaviors can be applied flexibly. For future research, it is recommended to present detailed information on the potential for more beneficial impacts from the perspective of therapy, means, art techniques, and therapist behaviors.
