Abstract

The development of technology leads many people to an increasingly modern era of globalization. Changes in fashion styles that are increasingly developing have an appeal that is favored by generation Z. Students who experience Fear of Missing Out (FoMO) tend to feel less confident about the life they live and want to show the best side of life on their social media, resulting in students wanting to continue to be involved in following trends. Today's fashion styles that tend to be tight and shape the curves of the body certainly deviate from Islamic law. Whereas dressing has several limitations and Islamic rules. This research is important to find out and describe the extent to which the FoMO phenomenon towards fashion trends and cultural influences affect the way Generation Z dresses. This research method is a mix-method using a questionnaire instrument with 101 respondents who were analyzed by percentage, interviews with the chairman of MUI, NU expert council, and psychology lecturer, and literature study. The results of this study show that on average, Gen Z does not FoMO on fashion trends and cultural influences because they realize the negative impact of FoMO. They also understand about dressing according to Islamic law. From this study it can be concluded that FoMO towards fashion trends can have a negative impact on gen Z's economy, emotional well-being, and perception of their self-image. Fashion trends and cultural influences can also be followed by gen Z as long as they do not violate Islamic rules.
