This study examines the phenomenon of postponing Eid al-Fitr celebrations when it coincides with a Tuesday or Friday in Kaluppini Village, Enrekang Regency, using a living hadith framework. The research adopts a qualitative methodology with a descriptive–analytical approach. Data were obtained through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation, involving four purposively selected informants: a religious scholar, the village head, a community leader, and a traditional elder. The findings indicate that the postponement of Eid al-Fitr is supported by three interrelated foundations. The formative foundation derives from prophetic traditions concerning the determination of the beginning and end of Ramadan, as well as the Islamic principle of facilitation (taysīr). The scientific foundation is based on the authority of local experts known as pandai tanda, who are perceived as possessing specialized knowledge in calendrical interpretation. The mythological foundation arises from the communal belief that holding major events on a Tuesday or Friday may invite misfortune. This findings illustrates how local belief systems shape religious practice and highlights the dynamic interaction between hadith and indigenous cultural norms. Furthermore, the practice reflects several Sunnah-oriented values, including consultation (musyāwarah), communal welfare (maṣlaḥah), and the integration of worldly and spiritual considerations. The study concludes that living hadith significantly influences the formation of localized religious practices, demonstrating a synergistic relationship between Islamic traditions and local cultural contexts.
